Algunos de estos verbos, como to ask, to expect y to want, admiten la construcción verbo + objeto + infinitivo (v. 12.6) y algunos, como to claim, to demand, to expect y to hope pueden construirse también con that (v. 19.9). Se construyen con infinitivo sin to los verbos modales, con excepción de ought to y used to (v. cap.11).
Nota. Los verbos to need y to want con el significado de
«necesitar/hacer falta algo», se construyen con «forma en -ing», que tiene entonces valor pasivo: This door needs/wants painting Esta puerta necesita pintarse/ser pintada
