La comparación de los adverbios sigue prácticamente las mismas normas que la de los adjetivos. Si el adverbio tiene una sola sílaba, añade -er para el comparativo y -est para el superlativo:
soon (pronto) sooner the soonest
near (cerca) nearer the nearest
Si el adverbio tiene dos sílabas (aunque termine en -y) o más, se antepone more para el comparativo y the most para el superlativo: brightly (brillantemente) more brightly the most brightly
easily (fácilmente) more easily the most easily
Hay un reducido grupo de adverbios con comparativo y superlativo irregulares:
well (bien) better the best
badly (mal) worse the worst
little (poco) less the least
much (mucho) more the most
far (lejos) farther the farthest
further the furthest
Encontramos finalmente un gran número de adverbios que no admiten grados de comparación en razón de su significado:
daily diariamente
once una vez
extremely extremadamente
really realmente
when cuando
there allí
then entonces
etc.
